Bobby Mote
World Champion Bareback Rider
1976-Living
Bobby grew up riding cutting horses. When he was 15, he listened to Chris LeDoux (1976 World Champion Bareback Rider) and became interested in bareback riding. His 90-year-old grandma drove him to the practice pen where he rode his first bareback horse and from that point forward, he was hooked.
The early years of Bobby’s career were riddled with injury. Mote did whatever jobs he could do to pay his way in rodeo including colt starting, fence building, and firewood cutting. He purchased his PRCA permit in 1995 and purchased his PRCA card in 1996.
The year 2000 was Bobby’s first breakout year when he won the Copenhagen Cup Tour Finale in Mesquite, Texas, earning over $21,000. Mote went on to qualify for the NFR 15 straight times, ending the season in the Top 4 of the World Standing 11 of the 15 years, including 4 World Championships, and a NFR Average title. Bobby won the West of the Pecos Rodeo in 2007, 2008, and 2009.
Bobby Mote was born June 3rd, 1976, in Portland, Oregon. In 2001 Bobby married Kate and they have three children, Charlie, Laura, and Trey. Today he enjoys competing in team roping and training horses with his family who all help with the day-to-day operations in Llano, Texas.
