Gilbert Carrillo
Bull Rider, Team Roper & PBR Ring of Fire Honoree
1971-Living
Gilbert Carrillo was born in El Paso, Texas on October 28, 1971 to John and Anne Dutchover Carrillo. Gilbert and his twin brother, Adam shared “a common goal to be the best Rodeo Bull Riders in the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA).” Being a West Texas cowboy, Gilbert rode and won many times in the West of the Pecos Rodeo when Mack Altizer’s Bad Company was producing.
In 1992, Gilbert along with his brother, embarked on the Pro Rodeo circuit road in their quest for the Rookie of the Year Award and for qualifying for the NFR. “The twins have crisscrossed this great nation from Salinas, California to Madison Square Gardens in New York City, New York, from Kissimmee, Florida to Seattle, Washington, and from Vancouver, British Columbia to Brandon, Manitoba in Canada.”
Career highlights for Gilbert include qualifying for the PBR World Finals 10 times and 8 times for the Built Ford Tough World Finals in his 12 year PBR career. He is one of six PBR bull riders to earn 96 points or higher and he did it twice. Gilbert has 29 Top-10 finishes and 14 Top-5 finishes and has two rides that rank among the Top 50 scores of all time. At the PBR St. Louis event in 2001 Gilbert rode Perfect Storm and in 2002 at the Ty Murray Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he rode Blueberry Wine. However, Gilbert says his best ride ever was on Crossfire Hurricane. Gilbert is a PBR Founding Member.
It is rare that these brothers do anything separately, so after retiring from the PBR in 2006, they started their own oilfield business, Cowboy Oil Field Services and own interest in Nitro Oil Field Services, with Gilbert covering West Texas and Adam covering South Texas. Gilbert was inducted into the PBR Ring of Honor in 2014, along with his twin, Adam.
Gilbert and his late wife, Julie, founded 4C’s Bucking Bulls & Training Facility and the 4C’s Rodeo Ranch on their Stephenville ranch, where Gilbert trains his (including Carrillo Cartel) and other people’s bulls. Julie made a name for herself in the PBR, CBR, the PRCA and was posthumously honored with the PBR Sharon Shoulders Award in 2017. Gilbert lives in Stephenville, Texas with their children, Chase and Cheney.
