Jackie Bob Riggs

Jackie Bob Riggs was born on February 25, 1954, in Del Rio, Texas, the daughter of Jack Riggs and Ora Altizer Riggs, both noted rodeo legends. Jackie Bob attended school at Sanderson, Texas, and participated in every activity that the school offered. She later attended Texas Tech University.
Jackie Bob first competed in the West of the Pecos Rodeo in 1964 and competed for several years until 2003. She was the average winner in 1965, 1968, and 1969. The last year she competed, she placed 3rd. Cox qualified for the 1986 National Finals Rodeo. Honors include Miss Rodeo Texas Tech 1975, Miss Rodeo Texas 1975, and First Runner-up to Miss Rodeo America 1975. Along with entering barrel racing contests, she has trained horses and students for many years and is still active in training them today.
Jackie Bob can proudly brag of her family’s commitment to rodeo and the rodeo way of life. Other family members who are involved with rodeo are Jack Riggs (father and 2010 TRHoF Inductee), Ora Altizer Riggs (mother), Jim Bob Altizer (uncle and 2004 TRHoF Inductee), Blanch Altizer Smith (aunt and 2014TRHoF Inductee) and Bub Cox (father-n-law).
Jackie Bob has been married to George Cox, a timed event contestant, for over 40 years and they have one daughter, Kelsey Dean, and three grandchildren, Kiley, Klacey, and Ryker. Kelsey is a practicing attorney and lives in Alpine with her family. The grandchildren are following in their family’s footsteps.
The West of the Pecos Rodeo will always have a special place in Jackie Bob’s heart.
