Kay Blandford was born in Levelland, Texas on August 17, 1955, to Bill and Virginia Proctor.  In 1960, the Proctors moved to Odessa, Texas where Kay graduated from high school.  Kay attended Howard County Junior College in 1977 and went on to South Eastern Oklahoma State University.  

            Kay qualified for the NFR in 1975, 1977, and 1979, on a horse named Big Jon.  In 1981 she qualified on a horse named June and on Popeye in 1993.  By this time Kay was becoming well known for her achievements in rodeo and her way of training.  It was on another horse she trained call “The Key Grip” or Llave that Kay qualified for the NFR in 1995-97, 2000-02.  It was on Llave, that Kay won $59,284 at the “Old Fort Days” Futurity in 1994.  Llave was also awarded “Horse of the Year” in 2002.

            In 2007, Kay won the $100,000-dollar Barrel Race on a 4-year-old mare named Angel.  Angel carried Kay to win the “Big Bucks” race and the title of 2007 WPRA World Champion.  In 2009 Kay and Angel qualified for both the San Antonio Rodeo and the Houston Rodeo.  Kay was inducted into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2010.  She has also qualified every year (2014-2018) for THE AMERICAN Semi-Finals in Arlington, Texas.      

            Kay met Robert Blandford in college and they later married in 1992.  They live in Sutherland Springs, Texas where Kay offers private lessons, clinics, and training of barrel horses and futurity champions.  Kay and KB Angel Ta Fame won the slack round of RFD-TV’s THE AMERICAN Barrel Racing with a 13.874 in early 2019.
