Louis Powers was born June 6, 1913, in Winters, Texas. He attended school in Norton, Texas. For more than 40 years, Louis competed in the calf roping events at rodeos and matched roping events.
Louis considered the West of the Pecos Rodeo one of his favorite places to compete, where he won the calf roping event five times. He was recognized and honored as being the "Oldest living cowboy who had competed...and won at the West of the Pecos Rodeo".
Louis was "Wagon Boss" for the West Texas Boys Ranch, a founding member, and advisor of the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo, and held member number 357 in the Cowboy's Turtle Association. Louis also produced events and coached children (or anyone who wanted to learn) with roping and riding aspirations; helping anyone who needed his expertise.
Louis had six children; Nancy, Mickey, Jimmy, Zane, Pam, and Trina. All of whom competed or took part in many phases of the sport of rodeo. He died on January 1, 1980. Louis Powers was posthumously inducted into the Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame.
